about

Wm. J. Hooftman

Our company dates back to 1938 when Wim J. Hooftman started our company in the Biezen in Boskoop. Boskoop is known as the largest contiguous tree growing area in the world. Our ancestors grew various trees and shrubs and exported this to the British Isles and Ireland.

When Willem J. ( the 3rd generation) came into the business in 1983 he continued the sales to England and later when his father John retired, Ireland. In the mid-1990th our company started putting more emphasis on expanding the cultivation of Acer. By putting up several of poly-house facilities over a period of a few years, we started growing Japanese maples in pot. This enabled us to sell own-grown stock throughout the year. We currently offer around 120 different varieties of Japanese Maples and are one of the leading growers in The Netherlands.

Besides Acer we also grow Cercis canadensis in a large number. Cercis has become a very popular plant due to its multitude of applications in an ever changing climate. We expect to be increasing our production of Cercis over the years and we keep introducing many exiting new varieties! Other plant-species we offer from our own nursery include Albizia and Lagerstroemia.
